Every now and then we all need a vacation but sometimes we don’t have the time or money to get out of our regular routine. A great solution: a day trip out of the city. If you follow me along on instagram, you may have noticed that I did a day trip and hiked to Garibaldi Lake (which is about an hour and a half drive outside of Vancouver) recently. The hike itself was about 5 hours and 18 km in total. The first 6 km was an intense incline, but the view in the end (crystal clear blue glacier water and gorgeous mountains) was worth it. Even though the hike was challenging, I felt that getting away from the city really cleared my head, the exercise made me feel energized and the fact that I was outdoors with nature made me feel calm, relaxed and rejuvenated afterwards. It’s amazing what a bit of time out of the city can do and make you feel. You may wonder why I am sharing all of this with you, and it is because this day trip was my perfect escape from the city and it made me feel great.
So without further ado, here a few tips for planning a day trip:
1. Plan somewhere outside of your city that you can get to and back within a day that you have never been to before. Be realistic when it comes to picking your destination to travel to as this will save you time and money. I would suggest limiting your travel time to 2 to 3 hours in total as this will allow you enough time to explore your new place. If you are unsure of where to go, ask your family or friends or look up online some places to go nearby you.
2. Spend your time outdoors in nature and that could be at a park, lake, or beach. Cities are generally busy, full of traffic and lots of noise so spending time in the outdoors where it is quiet and peaceful will really allow you to clear your head and feel relaxed.
3. Do something active. It doesn’t have to be anything super physical but do something like a walk, bike ride, a hike or swim in the water. A little bit of physical activity will make you feel energized and happy afterwards.
In the end, a day trip should make you feel like you had a mini vacation without breaking the bank or taking a lot of time out of your weekend leaving you feeling relaxed, energized and rejuvenated. Where do you like to go for day trips and what do you do to feel relaxed?
